Embracing Nature's Playground: World Environment Day with Ke Aloha Outrigger at Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse

On this special occasion of World Environment Day, we at NHSA (North Hudson Sewerage Authority) had the pleasure of meeting with Keith from Ke Aloha Outrigger to celebrate our shared passion for the Hudson River and explore the incredible work his organization is doing. The Hudson River holds a special place in our hearts, and we were excited to connect with Ke Aloha, the outrigger partner of the non-profit organization Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse. Together, we discussed our mutual interests and the vital role we play in preserving and promoting the health of this magnificent waterway.

Ke Aloha Outrigger's Mission: Ke Aloha Outrigger is dedicated to igniting interest and facilitating public access to the waterways of New York and New Jersey through exceptional watersport programs and education. Their primary focus is on outrigger canoeing, a sport deeply rooted in Polynesian traditions with a rich global heritage. By creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment, Ke Aloha aims to deepen knowledge and awareness of outrigger canoeing while fostering a strong sense of "ohana," or family, among participants. Through their programs, individuals can engage in team spirit, athleticism, and a profound connection with the water.

NHSA's Commitment to the Hudson River: At NHSA, we recognize the immense importance of preserving the Hudson River's ecological health. Our responsibility extends to ensuring the ongoing water quality improvement in the river, which faces various challenges due to combined sewer systems. With a century-old infrastructure that combines sanitary and storm sewers, we are dedicated to minimizing the impact of overflows and reducing the introduction of partially treated wastewater into the river. Over the past three decades, we have made significant progress in improving the water quality, resulting in a healthier and more vibrant ecosystem.

The Power of Collaboration: The meeting between NHSA and Ke Aloha Outrigger exemplifies the power of collaboration in nurturing the Hudson River. By joining forces, we can work towards shared goals of environmental stewardship, public access, and education. Together, we strive to deepen public knowledge of the Hudson River's ecological significance and encourage responsible recreational practices that promote its long-term sustainability.

Celebrating World Environment Day: World Environment Day serves as a global reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the environment. It is a day to reflect on the actions we can take individually and collectively to make a positive impact. The partnership between NHSA and Ke Aloha Outrigger demonstrates the importance of active engagement, community involvement, and raising awareness to safeguard our natural resources.

As we celebrate World Environment Day, let us renew our commitment to the Hudson River and its surrounding environment. Through collaboration, education, and responsible actions, we can ensure that future generations inherit a thriving and sustainable waterway.

On this World Environment Day, we celebrate the fruitful meetingbetween NHSA and Ke Aloha Outrigger, united by our shared love for the Hudson River. Together, we are committed to preserving its beauty, nurturing its biodiversity, and fostering a deeper connection between the community and this remarkable waterway. Let us all take a moment to appreciate the Hudson River's magnificence and renew our dedication to protecting it for generations to come.
