NHSA Weehawken Infrastructure Project Two Week Look ahead for 8/7- 8/18/2023

NHSA WEEHAWKEN INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT SUMMARY:

The project's main objective is to tackle flooding problems in Weehawken by replacing and modifying sections of combined sewer infrastructure. It involves upgrading portions the sewer system on Boulevard East, Highwood Avenue, Hudson Place, and Hamilton Avenue with new piping, manholes, catch basins, and a new underground pump station.  The upgraded infrastructure will take more rainwater off the streets, and convey it to the treatment plant.  The successful completion of the project will reduce flooding and enhance the infrastructure's resilience against more frequent and intense storms.

Two Week look ahead for 8/7- 8/18/2023.

There will be two crews working simultaneously, one on Blvd East, and one on Hudson Place and Highwood Ave. The map on page 2 indicates the work areas, parking limitations, and traffic pattern.

Week 1: 8/7-8/11/2023

Blvd East Work – Blvd East between Parkview Ave and Bonn Pl

During working hours, the traffic pattern will be one way traffic on the north side of Blvd East between Parkview Ave and Bonn Pl. The work zone includes the east and west bound lanes and south side parking. There will be no parking on Blvd East between Parkview Ave and Bonn Place and the North side of Blvd East between Bonn Pl and King Ave (minimal no parking). After working hours / overnight, the traffic pattern will flow to the north (west bound traffic) and south (east bound traffic) of the work zone “island” in the center.

As the work progresses along Blvd East, the traffic pattern will continue with flow to the north (west bound traffic) and south (east bound traffic) of the work zone “island” in the center. There will be no parking on Blvd East in the vicinity of the intersection of Bonn Pl and Blvd East (partial no parking between King Ave and Parkview Ave). Traffic leaving Bonn Pl will have to turn right onto Blvd East

Highwood Ave / Hudson Pl

At the beginning of the week, work will be performed at the intersection of Highwood Ave and Hudson Pl. Highwood Ave will be closed to through traffic between Hudson Pl and Duer Pl. As work progresses the work zone will move south towards Blvd East. Highway Ave will remain closed to through traffic.

House Keeping

·       No vehicles, equipment, or materials will be stored on the sidewalk.

·       Temporary striping on Blvd East and Highwood Ave in progress.

·       Variable messages boards set up on Blvd East approaching the work zone.

·       No sidewalks will be block on Highwood Ave.

Week 2: 8/14-8/18/2023

Week two will be dependent on the progress in week 1, this plan will be updated after week 1.

Blvd East - continuing work on Blvd East moving towards King Ave. Traffic will flow to the north and south of the work zone island. No parking in the proximity of the work zone between Bonn Pl and King Ave.

Highwood Ave – Continue work in the intersection of Highwood Ave. No through traffic on Highwood Ave.
