Collaboration and Community Engagement: NHSA's Highlights from Jersey Water Works 2024 Conference
On December 13, 2024, the North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) had the privilege of participating in the Jersey Water Works 2024 Conference at The College of New Jersey. Representing NHSA, Director of Communications and LTCP Public Outreach Coordinator Omar Vicioso joined a panel discussion titled "Towards a One Water Future: Effective Combined Sewer Overflow Solutions with Active Community Involvement."
This session brought together professionals, municipal leaders, and environmental advocates to exchange ideas on managing Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) through collaborative efforts. Omar shared insights into NHSA’s successes, challenges, and lessons learned in implementing its Long Term Control Plan (LTCP).
“Public outreach is not just an obligation—it’s an opportunity to build trust and foster meaningful collaboration with our community,” Omar said. “At NHSA, we prioritize transparency, proactive engagement, and partnerships to ensure our residents’ voices are part of the solution.”
The conference emphasized the importance of community involvement in water infrastructure projects. NHSA highlighted its initiatives, including public meetings, educational tours, and partnerships with local schools and organizations, as vital tools for increasing public awareness and participation.
As we move forward, NHSA remains committed to protecting the Hudson River and addressing CSO challenges by strengthening connections with residents and stakeholders. Stay tuned for updates as we continue working toward sustainable water management solutions.
