The state of New Jersey LIHWAP Assists Low Income Residents With Their Water and Sewer Bills

What is the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP)?

• Assists residents with water and sewer bills.

• Pays water and sewer companies directly on behalf of eligible customers.

• Can be used to pay past due balances, or to support those customers whose accounts are current, but might be in danger of falling behind.

Who is eligible for LIHWAP?

• Households that pay their own sewer bills and meet low-income requirements.

• Households with incomes at or below 60% of the NJ State median income.

• Priority given to families with elderly or disabled household members and/ or with children under the age of five

• Not available to businesses, estates, or property management companies.
